57 Films’ Paul Ryan and Nicole McKay-Dwyer, joined by cinematographer Aaron Gully, have just returned from a whirlwind tour of South Australia’s APY Lands!

In an initiative for the Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Education Committee (PYEC), 57 Films will produce 6 television commercials for regional station Imparja. They will form an integral part of a new campaign to increase school attendance within the Indigenous communities.

The first of a two-part shoot saw our team travel for seven days, covering 2000 road kilometres and visiting nine regional schools. Our crew was overwhelmed by the hospitality of the principals and teachers, and the enthusiasm of the students at all the schools, which ranged from family centres (for newborns and their mothers), to upper secondary classes.

It was a privilege for our team to be able to both travel into the region and to be able to interact with the locals. As the APY lands are so remote, we recognise what a unique opportunity this is, and the team were touched by the warmth and generosity of the communities, as well as awed by the pristine landscapes and breathtaking views.

We would like to say a special thanks to Peter Young, from the Department of Education for his daily guidance and support on this trip, and to all the wonderful people who so graciously welcomed our team into their community and contributed to an extra special project.

Stay tuned for the footage on our website. In the meantime, check out our Facebook or Instagram for all the Kodak moments!
